What would you do as a spa owner if you received a stimulus check and your therapists didn’t want to return to work?

Over the weekend something very interesting occurred related to the COVID-19 crisis. A Washington DC spa owner received federal assistance from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). She has two spas with a total of 35 employees. She discovered that her therapists do not want to return to the spa because right now they are making more money on unemployment.

As a former therapist, I can relate to their decision. I have worked on commission and experienced less than fair treatment from some spa owners. But as a business owner, I also understand the pain of building a business only to see it crash and burn from an unexpected event. And ultimately if it goes under, have the therapists even thought about plan B?
